Macaron Day Toronto 2015

By 22:10

Happy first day of Spring, my pretty flowers! Even though it's finally Spring, the weather is still chilly and snow is still present on the roads. Besides the colourful flowers in the flower shops, it's still pretty dreary looking outside. Grey weather doesn't stop me from wearing my favourite pink eye make-up!

Other than being the first day of Spring, it's also Toronto's Macaron Day. I've been attending Macaron Day for 3 years now, either with friends or with my sister. Before that I was away at university so I never had the chance to go. If you're not familiar with Macaron Day, it is a day where "Coinciding with Macaron Day taking place in Paris, NYC and other international cities, Macaron Day in Toronto celebrates these delicate confections in support of a local charity. You can read more about the event at their website; here. But basically, 25% of the macaron purchases at the participating patisseries go to Red Door Charity.

I decided to go to only two places this year since parking in the area sucks and I didn't feel like taking the bus anywhere. First off, I dropped by Nadège Patisserie, a very beautiful French patisserie full of pastries, chocolates, sandwiches, and all the goods. The location I went to didn't have the sit-in cafe but I wasn't planning to stay for long. Their packaging and store atmosphere are always lovely and bright, perfect spring-like mood. Nadège doesn't participate in the same Macaron Day event as they donate to Sick Kids instead.

Beautifully bright packaging and separator to keep your macs safe!

I picked up a box of twelve assorted macarons there, the sleeves are a bit cheaper but the macarons damage easier in there during a longer commute. I stacked up on mainly basic flavours like chocolate, cappuccino, lemon, cherry chocolate, blackberry chocolate, and raspberry chocolate. I also picked up a passionfruit chocolate, rose, and a maple bacon flavoured macaron to spice things up. I wasn't a big fan of the passionfruit or rose flavours, but I tried maple bacon last year and wanted my brother to taste it. Maple bacon is a funny flavour, it's like a sweet jerky taste. If you get the chance, you can try it out for the fun of it.

Across the street was Petite Thuet, a French bakery carrying things from baked goods, jam, to full meals. I also came to this location last year, though much earlier in the day. Petite Thuet is a participant of Macaron Day and offers a free macaron with a $2.50 donation or with a purchase of 5 macarons (or so I was informed).

Petite Thuet always has such full and good sized macarons, this year was not any different. The flavours here aren't as out of the ordinary as other patisseries but still very solid. I'm not sure if it was the time I went this year or if it was a bad batch but the macarons were very brittle. Nonetheless, the fillings are still A+. I only grabbed six from here this year since they were out of the flavours I really liked.

So March Break is ending for my siblings and I'll have my free time back, sort of. I've gone back to work so I'll still be a lot less active. I'm in the middle of writing a review and then there's also another haul post that I'll put up after that (since I have a lot of haul posts). Maybe I should condense my haul posts but, they'll be less detailed if I decide to do that.

Hope you're all doing wonderfully!
